Remarks: Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic inflammation of the spine and the sacroiliac joints. Over the time, chronic spinal inflammation (spondylitis) can lead to a complete cementing together with the vertebrae, a process called Ankylosis. Ankylosis causes total loss of mobility of the spine. Ankylosing spondylitis is also a systemic rheumatic disease and can cause inflammation in other joints and organs (eyes, heart, lungs, and kidneys).
