Remarks: Stools routine is an important and extremely useful laboratory investigation that includes:
- Macroscopic examination for detection of mucous, parasites, larvae, blood and other abnormal macroscopic elements.
- Microscopic examination after sample concentration, for detection of ova, cysts, larvae, worms, abnormal crystals and undigested food and others.
- Cultures on Selenite, HEA, SS and XLD agars for detection of pathogenic enteric bacteria and further subcultures on BioMerieux API system with 20 different agar cultures (Mainly for detection of Salmonella, Shigella and pathogenic enteric bacterii).
