Remarks: RBC Cholinesterase is used to assess intoxication with organophosphate and carbamate compunds. RBC Cholinesterase is irreversibly inhibited by organophosphate pesticides and reversibly inhibited by carbamate insecticides. RBC Cholinesterase levels are better indicator for chronic exposure to the toxic compounds while serum or plasma Cholisesterase (Pseudocholinesterase) is used as a measure of acute toxicity.
