Protein (Total)

Sample: Serum 0.5 mL

Status: Accredited

Schedule: Daily

Units: g/dL

Range: 6,2 - 8,5

Remarks: Total serum protein may be increased in dehydratation, some tipes of liver diseases, neoplasma (specially myeloma) and some collagen diseases (SLE). Decreased total protein is seen in pregnancy, cirrhosis (specially due to chronic alcoholism), prolonged immovilization, malabsortion, malnutrition and burns. Critically low protein levels (less than 4,0 g/dL) cause edema (eg neprotic syndromes).
