Remarks: Insulin-dependent diabetes (Type 1) is caused by the destruction of beta-cell of the pancreas, leading to an absolute insulin deficiency. The onset of diabetes symptoms occurs only after 80% - 90% of these cells have been destroyed. Before the clinical onset, Type 1 diabetes is characterized by circulating autoantibodies against different islet cell antigens, including GAD antibodies, Tyrosine Phosphatase (IA2), and Insulin (IA). The risk of diabetes is increased with the presence of each additional autoantibody marker
