Range: hPL levels during weeks of pregnancy:
2.7 - 8.5 (28th - 30th week)
3.2 - 9.5 (30th - 32nd week)
3.7 - 10.6 (32nd - 34th week)
4.0 - 10.7 (34th - 36th week)
4.3 - 11.2 (36th - 38th week)
Remarks: hPL (Human Placental Lactogen) is produced in the placenta under the regulation of oestrogens and is important for the growth of the placenta as well as in the development of the breast glands
hPL level in the maternal serum increases steadily from the 3th week of gestation and continue to rise with the placentas growth until the last month of pregnancy. Pregnancies with smaller placentas will have low serum hPL levels.
