Remarks: CA 19-9 (Carbohydrate Antigen 19-9) is used in monitoring gastrointestinal carcinomas. It is inferior to CEA in evaluating colorectal carcinoma. Although the CA 19-9 test has some diagnostic value in pancreatic carcinoma, its value in early diagnosis is limited. CA 19-9 should not be used as screening test for pancreas or gastrointestinal carcinoma.
