Anti SS-B/La Antibody

Sample: Serum

Schedule: Daily

Units:

Range: Negative

Remarks: Anti SS-A/Ro antibodies are found in about 70% of patients with Sjögrens syndrome and in less degree ( about 40%) in patients with SLE. SS-B/La are found in up to 60% of Sjögrens Syndrome patients and up to 20% of SLE patients. These antibodies are classified in the group of ENA (Extractablre Nuclear Antibodies) and cannot be demonstrated by immunofluorescence technique because they are soluble in the buffers used by this technique. Nevertheless, SS-B/La sometimes may be seen as a speckled antinuclear pattern in ANA (Hep-2) test. Anti SS-A/Ro and Anti SS-B/La are particularly useful in ANA (Hep-2) negative cases of patients with SLE. Patients with SS-A/Ro positive and SS-B/La are likely to develop nephritis. SS-A/Ro are also associated with HLA DR3 and DR2 Anti-SS-A/Ro and anti-SS-B/La are found in virtually all children with Neonatal Lupus. SS-A/Ro positive patients may develop thromboses (Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome).
