Remarks: Scl-70 antibodies belong to the group of ENA (Extractable Nuclear Antibodies), that is antibodies that can not be detected with the IF method. Scl-70 are considered highly diagnostic and specific for scleroderma (20-60% positive) and are seen in 25% of progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS). When scleroderma patients are divided into those with the milder CREST Syndrome variant and the more severe diffuse form (PSS), Scl-70 antibodies is more prevalent (>70%) in patients with severe diffuse form of scleroderma (called CREST Syndrome) compared to the milder disease (PSS) group.
