Remarks: Test is used to detect exposure to HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 viruses, the causative agent of AIDS (Adquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). A positive result should be confirmed by more specific procedures (Western blot test, HIV DNA PCR, Immunofluorescence test). The acute phase of the infection is usually followed within days by a flu-like illness, or no symptoms at all.
